Tomboy Cardigan

Anything that comes out of Elena’s design closet is a winner. She designs these gorgeous patterns for kids which are not just eye candy, but functional, seamless and very interesting with textures and cables. I used to feel sad that she designs mostly girls’ stuff, so when she was about to release her unisex vest pattern for testing, she contacted me to check if I would be willing. Oh heck, yes, I was more than willing to test knit.

Though this vest was test knitted way back in July, we had to keep this project under wraps until it was published, so forgive me if I don’t remember some particulars of the project. I used 2-ply acrylic yarn in grey which I have a huge stock of and held 3 strands (yes, you read that right, didn’t you know I am the yarn-held-double-treble-queen) to get the required gauge. Elena might have been aiming for a less dense fabric, but mine turned out super dense and oh-so-cozy. Not that I am complaining because this cardigan will get lots of use this winter.

The pattern is easy enough for beginners and interesting enough for seasoned knitters. The cardigan has textures created using simple ribs and seed stitch. As always with Elena’s patterns, this too comes with various options for sleeves, collar/hood and hems and all this in a free pattern! Pick what suits you and off you go knitting.
